Campaign to intercept violence

2019-10-30 06:01

The Free State Legislature Speaker, Zanele Sifuba, will embark on an interactive gender-based violence dialogue campaign in the Matjhabeng local municipality, paving the way for 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.

The campaign starts today (30/10) at the Lemotso Primary School in Thabong, Welkom.

“This programme is undertaken, mindful of the fact that protest marches, prayer sessions and parliamentary debates were held, however we still find ourselves with this crisis. Gender-based violence is a profound and pervasive problem in South Africa, impacting on almost every aspect of life.

“Studies have shown that the problem in South Africa is systemic and deeply entrenched within institutions, cultures and traditions,” said Maroele Seruoe, spokesperson for the legislature.

The objective is to create a platform for men and women to talk and develop mechanisms that can assist in the eradication of gender-based violence.
