Candidates rewrite matric exams

2018-02-21 06:02

The Free State Department of Education has announced that about 5 000 candidates will rewrite supplementary examinations meant to improve their results and help them obtain matric certificates.

According to the department, the 2018 National Senior Certificate supplementary examination is written from Sunday (18/02) until 28 March.

Supplementary examinations afford learners, who could not get a pass, a second chance to attain the matric certificate required to get access to higher education or employment.

“A matric certificate is a gateway to a better future,” says Tate Makgoe, MEC for Education in the Free State.

This second chance is for learners who need a maximum of two of their subjects to pass, or were unable to write for medical reasons, had a death in the immediate family, or could provide evidence that they need a better result to qualify to study at university or college.

The department says it will provide support through the Internet Broadcasting Project, whereby revision lessons on key topics per subject will be broadcast two to three days before the exams.

Study material will also be made available for learners in subjects such as Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Science, Life Science, Business Studies, Economics, Accounting, Geography and History. Results will be released on 4 May.
