Celebrating Youth Day

2019-06-19 06:01
Both the teachers and non-teaching staff of the Tswelangpele Intermediate School in Mmakwane, Qwaqwa, celebrated national Youth Day by dressing in school uniforms of their choice. From the left are Mantepela Motaung, Mamollo Mofokeng, Thobile Mbele, Puseletso Mosikili, Tshediso Ramathe, Mantombi Weeto, Mpho Tekela and Nnini Nzimande. Youth Day commemorates a wave of protests across the country known as the Soweto uprising of 1976, when the youth took to the streets in response to multiple issues with the Bantu Education Act and the government edict of 1974 that Afrikaans be used as the medium of instruction for certain subjects in black schools.
