Celtic set to face former teammates

2019-02-27 06:00

The Nedbank Cup quarterfinal between Lamontville Golden Arrows and Bloemfontein Celtic has pitted Celtic against its former coach, Steve Komphela, and five former teammates.

Limbikani Mzava, Musa Bilankulu, Danny Venter, Wayde Jooste and Lerato Lamola, all formerly Phunya Sele Sele players, now play for Golden Arrows.

The draw to decide which teams will play against each other that pitted the two clubs for the grudge matchwas conducted in Johannesburg on Thursday, 21 February.

Celtic will host the KwaZulu-Natal outfit in this knockout fixture. The dates and kick-off times are yet to be announced.

This will be Komphela’s second trip to Bloemfontein to face off with the club he left in December.

The first was early in January when Celtic and Arrows faced off in a Premier Soccer League fixture that was drawn 1 – 1.

Komphela, the former captain of Bafana Bafana, quit cash-strapped Celtic to joined Golden Arrows to replace Clinton Larsen, who led Phunya Sele Sele to win the Telkom Knockout Cup in 2011.

Besides the technical ability of his team, Komphela will count on the five former Celtic players to take control of this make or break elimination fixture.

The teams will go head to head at the meet in this make or break cup elimination outing to be played at Dr Rantlai Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.

Celtic will be guided by interim co-coaches Lehlohonolo Seema and John Maduka.

The duo worked with Komphela, who rose to prominence playing for Free State Stars and later Kaizer Chiefs.

Seema and Maduka have done well to keep Celtic afloat amidst this troubling time characterised bysupporters’ ongoing boycotts of home fixtures.
