KESTELL. – A 102-year-old man who is faced with an allegation of raping an 8-year-old from Tlholong near Kestell is out on free bail.

The centenarian was released on Wednesday, (31/08) by the Kestell Magistrate Court, but he is expected to appear at the same court on 5 October.

It is alleged that on Saturday, 20 August, at approximately 17:00, the victim and her younger brother were visiting a neighbour’s house where the old man was staying.

After a while her younger brother left and she remained behind.

Apparently, soon after her brother had left, the old man closed the door and allegedly raped her.

It is further alleged that the brother came back and caught the old man red-handed.

The girl managed to run away.

Sgt Mmako Mophiring, the police spokesperson, said the children reported the incident to their parents and a case was registered the next day.

“The suspect aged 102 was arrested and charged,” he said.
