The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will hold a series of auditions for local choral choruses to enter the Free State Provincial Mass Choir competition. The chief objective of the choral initiative is promoting and developing choral music as an art form. “We value choral music because of its stature in society and the role it can play in nation building, social cohesion and the preservation of our heritage. This art form can play an important role to promote moral regeneration and can be a vehicle through which we drive our message of patriotism in the province. It is important to encourage young people to cherish and take part in choral music,” said the MEC for sport, arts, culture and recreation, Limakatso Mahasa. Dates and venues for auditions (all starting at 10:00): Bloemfontein Civic Theatre, 22 to 23 August; Lejweleputswa Arts Centre in Welkom on 29 to 30 August; Fezile Dabi Arts Centre in Sasolburg 5 to 6 September; and Maluti a Phofung Multi-Purpose Centre in Qwaqwa on 12 to 13 September.
