Another highly anticipated football derby featuring two clubs in the third-tier division of the SAB League is on the cards.

This features cross-town rivals, Mathaithai from Botshabelo and Kingston from Bloemfontein.

The intriguing return tie will be played at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium in Botshabelo on Thursday (21/03).

Kick-off is at 16:00.

Both sides are among the four teams fiercely contesting to win the league championship of the Safa-Mangaung region.

They square off barely four days after other intriguing derbies. Log leaders Mathaithai beat hometown rivals Lazio by 3 – 0 while Kingston shared the spoils with their Bloemfontein hometown rivals Questas, playing to a 1 – 1 draw on Sunday (17/03) at the Clive Solomon Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The result saw Mathaithai widen the gap at the top of the table by a mere two points and four points from closer contenders, Questas and Kingston as well as Lazio, respectively.

The Botshabelo-based Mathaithai also top the log due to a superior goal tally of 52 goals scored in 22 league matches played thus far.

After the fixtures on Thursday, the competition will be left with just seven fixtures to end the season.

Victory for Mathaithai over Kingston would widen the gap, while for the latter team, it will even intensify their prospect to clinch the championship.

The derby between Kingston and Mathaithai is fundamental in their championship winning aspirations. Currently Kingston is in third place on 44 points and defeat would negatively impact on their mission to win the much-sought after championship.

Questas remain intact in the second place with 46 points while Lazio remain in fourth position with 44 points.

Questas is bound to win against City Shakers in a return league fixture on Thursday in Bloemfontein.

Kick-off is at 16:00.

The four top-seeded teams are the hot favourites.
