The Queen of Comedy embarked on her first official South African tour earlier this year and is expected to be entertaining local comedy lovers with her hilarious show Tumi Or Not Tumi at the Flamingo Casino on Friday, 26 August.

“There are people who have heard of Tumi Morake, there are people who have seen Tumi Morake, but there are many that don’t actually know Tumi Morake. They are finally going to meet her,” says Tumi.

The show follows her journey as she tries to find herself in the schizophrenia of motherhood, wifehood and South African-hood.

“After ten years in the industry, it’s crazy that I have never done a South African tour. Well, the time has finally arrived. The comedy industry in this country has grown so much in terms of offerings and demand. South Africans seem to have an insatiable appetite for it and hopefully I can whet their appetites with this show,” she said.

Raw and unapologetic, the show promises to be thought provoking and provide a glimpse of what life could be like if we made a little effort – putting us all, and herself, under the spotlight.

Tumi made history in 2016 by being the first woman to be crowned Comic of the Year at the sixth annual Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards. This year Tumi continued in this success.

Beyond her comedy, she has been the face of many major campaigns, including becoming the official brand ambassador for Jaguar Landrover Menlyn, as well as presenting the latest news as co-host of the new breakfast show on Jacaranda FM alongside Martin Bester (Breakfast with Martin Bester and Tumi Morake).

Since beginning her career in 2006, she is described as having steadily grown into one of South Africa’s most sought after comedians, with numerous nominations and awards. These include receiving the 2016 YOU Spectacular Award for Best Comedian of the Year.

A formidable force in the industry, some highlights of her career include being the first woman to host Comedy Central Presents on African soil and ticking off a bucket list item – taking her first one-wo-man show to the famed Edinburgh Festival in Scotland in 2013.

Tumi spent two seasons on the judging panel of etv’s She’s The One and hosted the ever-trending Our Perfect Wedding for a record three seasons after a public demand for her return.

This year has seen her hosting the second season of Point of Order as well as co-hosting SABC’s Red Cake with Alan Committie.

) Tumi or Not Tumi is rated PG16 and tickets are already selling for R100.

Express Northern Cape, in partnership with Flamingo Casino, will be giving away double tickets to three lucky readers through its Facebook competition.
