Consumer rights promoted

2017-03-08 06:01

World Consumer Rights Day, which is observed on Wednesday (15/03), will be celebrated in the Free State in Kroonstad at the Seeisoville Hall.

This annual event continues the promotion of the basic rights of consumers.

The theme for this year is “Consumer Rights in the Digital Age”.

The aim is to mobilize all consumers to demand that their rights are respected and protected and to protest market abuses and social injustices.

The celebration will be anchored in supporting government’s initiatives to strengthen the skills of consumers using the digital economy.

Issues to be discussed include online services that consumers can trust, what happens to the data that you share online and what consumers’ rights are in relation to digital products.

The event will coincide with the swearing in of ten new officials for the Consumer Affairs Court.

These officials will take an oath of office to serve for a period of two years.
