The first round of the Free State stream of the ABC Motsepe League nearing completion remains a tight contest, with eight clubs intact for the championship. Only a point separates the eight teams vying for the championship. Currently the leaders are newcomers Tshiame All Stars with 22 points, followed by Super Eagles and Harmony in second position with 21 points. Bubchu United and Mangaung United follow suit in fourth and fifth places with 20 points. Bloemfontein Young Tigers, Dikwena United and Sibanye Golden Stars all have 19 points. The teams find themselves in the respective positions after 11 matches played in 13 weeks. Due to the close contest, it is difficult to predict the favourite to win. All the 16 teams campaigning in the league have four matches to play to wrap up the first round and to determine a team having the potential to win the title at the end of the season. Eight clubs rooted at the bottom half of the league are battling dreaded relegation. Those in real danger are newly-promoted Lijabatho, the Free State Stars Development Academy, Dla 2 FC, Dinonyana and Bloemfontein Celtic Development.
