Convicted drug dealer jailed

2018-04-04 06:02

Augustine Bizimana (32), a Nigerian national, was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment by the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court following his conviction for dealing in drugs.

The sentence, handed down on 14 March, follows Bizimana’s arrest in 2016 by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Unit.

He was arrested with another suspect, Ikechukwu Alex Nwabynwaner (34).

According to Nomthandazo Mnisi, Hawks spokesperson, the major investigation into drug dealing was concluded after cocaine, tik and Cat were seized during the wipe-out operation conducted on the day of the arrest.

Bizimana was found guilty and sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment, of which two years are suspended for five years, on condition that the accused is not convicted of contravention of the Section 5(b) Act 140 of 1992 during the period of suspension.

In addition to this sentence, the accused is sentenced to a R40 000 fine or 12 months’ imprisonment.

Nwabynwaner was found not guilty on both counts.
