FICKSBURG. – Thursday (09/06) is D-day for a senior official of the Setsoto Local Municipality who has been accused of corruption and mismanagement.

Thamane Masejane, the director of cooperative services, will then find out whether he will be suspended or investigated after being accused of serious offences.

On Tuesday, 31 May, the residents of Ficksburg, Caledon Park and Meqheleng, submitted five memorandums outlining their grievances to the Department of Justice, the South African Police Services (SAPS), the Setsoto Local Municipality, the ANC Provincial Office and the Department of Home Affairs.

In the memorandums to the ANC and the municipality, which were both received by Tsheliso Jakobo, the mayor of the Setsoto Municipality, the community has called for the immediate removal of Masejane as the Municipality Electoral Officer (MEO), due to his political involvement.

“How much more corruption and mismanagement of funds will he and his counterparts involve the municipality in? We further recommend that he be removed from his position as director corporate services with immediate effect for having leaked and distributed confidential information,” the memorandum reads.

It further stated that they wanted Masejane to clarify his employment policy and to tell how he could appoint individuals from outside the municipality to occupy positions requiring semi-skilled individuals, while Ficksburg and Setsoto as a whole still had an employment crisis.

The community has also called for the suspension and investigation of Thabo Mokoena.

“We recommend that Masejane together with Thabo Mokoena be suspended from the organisation for causing division at branch level.

“Tshepiso Ramakarane, the municipal manager, was deployed to the municipality by the ANC provincial office to rescue the municipality from the junk status that Masejane and his counterparts had led it to. We ask how much more confidential information will he and his counterparts be allowed to acquire from the municipal manager’s office?” the community said in the memorandum.
