Council visits NC to assess challenges

The Northern Cape province is expected to witness a visit by a multi-party delegation of the National Council of ­Provinces (NCOP) as part of the NCOP’s con­stitutional mandate of ensuring that provincial interests are taken into the national sphere of government.

The visit is expected to be from Monday (14/08) to Friday (18/08).

The objective is to assess the challenges the Northern Cape is facing in the water and sanitation sector.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) is expected to brief the ­delegation on the progress of Bulk Water Supply and the Bucket Eradication Programme in the Northern Cape.

The following ­departments are also expected to brief the NCOP: Higher Education and Training, Arts and Culture, Sport and Recreation, Social Development, Health and Human Settlement.

Among the projects ­expected to be visited by the NCOP delegation are the Kimberley Hospital, the Sol Plaatje University, Northern Cape Theatre, Northern Cape Urban College, Galeshewe Community Health Centre, as well as the Segani Rainbow Early Learning Centre.
