Court unveiled

2018-11-28 06:01

The Botshabelo Sexual Offences Court was officially unveiled on Saturday (24/11) by the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Adv. Michael Masutha.

The court is situated on the premises of the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court. The launch coincided with 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.

Sexual Offences Courts were reintroduced by the Department of Justice in 2013, with the chief objective to provide specialised redress to victims of sexual offences and to reduce the turnaround time in the finalisation of such cases.

Sexual Offences Courts are also in pursuance of government’s commitment to fighting the scourge of gender-based violence in the country.

The National Prosecution Authority, Legal Aid South Africa and the Special Investigating Unit provided services to the public at the launch.
