Interstate Bus Lines has suspended the driver of a bus which was involved in an accident that involved a taxi on N8 near Thaba Nchu on Saturday (19/11). The driver’s immediate suspension followed preliminary investigations, said Thando Lepele, spokesperson of the bus company. She said preliminary investigations and eyewitnesses indicated that the bus driver was attempting to make a U-turn on the N8 with the intention of entering the road going to Selosesha, resulting in an accident which claimed the life of one passenger.

Lepele said the deceased, who had been travelling in the taxi, died at the scene, while the survivors of both the bus and taxi were admitted to different hospitals in Botshabelo and Bloemfontein – five to Botshabelo and six to Pelonomi Hospital. She said measures were afoot to assist victims with Road Accident Fund compensation.
