Culprits get fines

BETHLEHEM. – A total of 36 fines were issued by members of the Bethlehem Visible Policing Unit during their recent operation in Bohlokong near Bethlehem.

The successful operation yielded positive results, as a total of 43 people were faced with the music in different charges.

According to Capt. Zweli Mohobeleli, the Bethlehem spokesperson, the overnight operation, which was held on Friday, 5 August, and Saturday, 6 August, included roadblocks, high visibility policing and searches.

“We had 43 cases that included rape (1), undocumented persons (4), driving under the influence of alcohol (2) and other alcohol-related crimes (36 fines issued).

“Drinking in public, drunkenness in public, or getting behind the wheel whilst under the influence of alcohol are criminal offences.

“Other crimes such as rape, assault and murder can also be the result of excessive drinking.

“These on-going operations are part of ensuring order.”
