The DA deems victory by its candidate in the Moqhaka Municipality’s ward 3 by-election as encouraging in its mission to positively change the lives of ordinary people.

The DA’s candidate Nicholas Muller won in this hotly contested by-election in Kroonstad held on Wednesday (21/11).

He contested against Tsie Isaac Borole of the ANC, Lebohang Patrick Mosia of the EFF and Annemarie Elizabeth Jordaan of the Vryheidsfront Plus.

The ward became vacant due to the death of the former councillor who represented the DA.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Free State, the voter turnout for ward 3 in the 2016 municipal elections was 59,86% and the DA candidate won by 62,55% of the valid votes.

“We are confident that the people have chosen a strong candidate in Muller who carries the concerns of the ward 3 community close to his heart. Muller has also proven that he is willing and able to take up the fight of the community to ensure that the residents’ concerns are addressed and that good service delivery remains a top priority,” said Patricia Kopane, DA’s Free State Premier candidate.

Kopane has further encourage all voters to register for the 2019 general election.

“It is crucial that all South Africans of voting age are correctly registered to vote in next year’s elections,” said Kopane.
