The police in Parkweg, Bloemfontein, are appealing for public assistance in finding the next of kin of a deceased man whose identity is unknown.
The body of the deceased is currently being kept at a state mortuary in Bloemfontein.
Capt. Chaka Marope, spokesperson of the Parkweg Police Station, says the deceased was wearing black tracksuit pants, a blue T-shirt and black shoes. He had long hair and a long beard.
According to Marope, police members found the body on the side of the road at the corner of Brill and Chris Botha Avenue in Bloemfontein on Monday, 22 January.
Marope says a preliminary investigation indicates that the man had died a few hours before the patrolling police members arrived on the scene.
“The deceased had no obvious wounds and showed no signs of struggle. He was found lying on his back. The paramedics who were summoned to the scene declared him dead.
“An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of his death,” says Marope.
He says the deceased is suspected to be in his late 40s.
The police are continuing their investigation.
