Decreased dam levels a concern

Residents in the Free State are urged to continue saving water as dams have reached a critically low level. supplying water have decreased to the lowest level.In the wake of poor rainfall, the Department of Water and Sanitation in the province stated that the level of most of the dams supplying water is critically low.

The department attributes the sharp decrease of water levels to the searing heatwave. Dams which are of serious concern include the Tierpoort Dam (0,3%), the Kalkfontein Dam (9,2%), the Krugersdrift Dam (5,1%) and the Groothoek Dam (12,6%). The Gariep and Vanderkloof Dam are below 60%.
