Department reaches out

2016-10-12 06:00

THE Free State’s Social Development Department is criss-crossing the province showcasing services rendered and doing introspection regarding socio-economic programmes that are meant to empower the community. The outreach is being taken in line with the department’s declaration of October as Social Development Month during which achievements of integrated developmental programmes are celebrated.

Lerato Tlhapuletsa, department spokesperson, said through the month-long programme, the department is aiming at addressing challenges, fighting poverty and building a caring and self-reliant society. “The programme is part of a commitment to ensuring transformation of the society by empowering the citizens through provision of integrated developmental services.”

The month-long programme started with the hosting of the International Day of Older persons on 1 October. It will also see the hosting of a Young Community Developer of the Year function in Villiers on Thursday (13/10).

Activities will culminate in Clarens with the opening of the Beyers Naude Centre for people addicted to substances.
