Development to help growth

2019-04-24 06:01

The Kosmos apartments in Brandwag, Bloemfontein, will be demolished as part of a new and exciting development to bring about economic growth.

The apartment building is located on the western side of the Brandwag Centre.

“The demolition is inspired by the redevelopment plans for the Mimosa precinct and is motivated by the current unsafe condition of the apartments, due to the age of the building,” said André Rossouw, marketing manager of Mimosa Mall and the Brandwag Centre.

The residential block of apartments has been vacant since January 2019.

Pareto Limited, the owner of Mimosa Mall, Brandwag Centre and the Kosmos apartments in Brandwag, has announced on Thursday (18/04) that they will demolish the Kosmos apartments.

The company followed the formal process of the Mangaung City Council which culminated in the successful granting of the demolition certificate for Kosmos apartments.

Rossouw said the demolition of the apartments is set to start during the last week of this month.

He said the process will include approximately one week of mechanical noise and possible dust conditions.

Thereafter the removal process of rubble will commence for the next ten days.

“The reinstatement of the area will follow with the entire process being concluded by July 2019.

The area will be secured and risk to the public and surrounding buildings will be minimal,” said Rossouw.

He said whilst planning was underway for the City’s approval, much needed development investment into Bloemfontein was being planned.

“The site will be developed into a park and a neighbourhood market. The area will provide a vital green space for the residents of Bloemfontein as well as an outdoor market, targeted at families,” Rossouw said.

Rossouw said after completion of the redevelopment of the Mimosa precinct, the area will be renamed to The Mimosa Gardens.

The official opening of the multimillion rand project is scheduled to be towards the end of 2019. The project envisaged to contribute towards economic growth of the city.
