THE Northern Cape’s premier netball team, the Diamonds, continued their slump in the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League after losing by 82-21 to the Flames from the North West.

The loss in Sunday’s (08/05) fixture was the Diamond third in a row following losses of 31-59 to Gauteng Fireballs 59 and 24-64 to the Free State’s Crinums.

The Diamonds’ poor run saw them lose significant ground in the hunt for glory in the championship.

They started the tournament well, winning two matches that propelled them to the top half on the log.

They were among the top five of the ten teams in the competition.

However, they seemed to have found the going tough as the competition progressed, with their opponents capitalising on their poor form to improve their chances of winning the championship.

The Northern Cape side has lost six and won two of the eight matches played thus far.

The last round robin matches will be played this weekend of 13 to 15 May with teams expected to pull out all the stops to secure a place in the quarterfinals. The Northern Cape team can still consolidate their position with a win.
