The Mangaung Disability Sports Day, promoting sport for people with disabilities, will this year be held on 15 November. The event makes provision for patrons to participate in wheelchair rugby, wheelchair volleyball and goal ball for the blind, as well as in the Kasi Wheelchair Race over 5 km. The 5 km race is open for both abled-bodied athletes, as well as those with physical disabilities. Activities will take place in the Mangaung Indoor Sports Centre, with the 5 km race preceding the event. The race will start at the MUCPP Clinic and finish at the Dr R.P. Molemela Stadium.Registration for the race will be done at the clinic. The event is organised by the MUCPP and the Mangaung Metro Municipality. Bronwyn Muteebezi, coordinator and occupational therapist, said this was a continuation of raising awareness for persons with disabilities and celebrating different abilities. The event coincides with the South Africa commemoration of the National Disability Rights Awareness Month annually from 3 November to 3 December. Disability is the consequence of an impairment that may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental or some combination of these.
