Dispute ends in death

A Bethlehem man, Moqebelo Mofokeng (26), faces a charge of murdering his co-worker, Teboho Mgomezulu (37), over unpaid money. The accused briefly appeared in the in the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 6 February.

According to Capt. Zweli Mohobeleli of the Bethlehem police cluster, the stabbing followed a bitter argument over unpaid money.

He says the deceased had reportedly demanded that the accused repay the money he had borrowed.

“In the heated argument, Mofokeng and an accomplice, who is on the run, stabbed the deceased multiple times with a sharp object.”

Mohobeleli says the accused remains in custody while the police are searching for the second suspect.

The deceased and suspects work a farm near Bethlehem. He said information received from a witness, the deceased Mgomezulu had loaned cash to his colleagues. Mohobeleli says the victim was admitted to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his severe stab wounds.
