The Free State Department of Education has saluted the Xhariep District’s matric class of 2019 for achieving an overall pass rate of 88,9% in the National Senior Certificate examinations.

To recognise the efforts and hard work of both learners and teachers, an event was held at the Diamanthoogte Combined School in Koffiefontein on Friday (07/02).

Three schools in particular made the region proud with exceptional results.

The Reikaletse Secondary School was the most improved, improving the pass rate from 73,9% to 100%. The Koffiefontein Secondary School and Diamanthoogte Combined School achieved a pass rate of 88,9% and 71,7% respectively.

According to the department, these achievements are remarkable given the service delivery protests. The district claimed the second spot provincially, and graced the national top ten list.

Altogether 1 101 learners from the district wrote the exams, the smallest number in the province.
