The lives of learners at the Kenilworth Farm School outside Bloemfontein has changed for the better, upon receiving an essential donation. They received brand-new school shoes, books and blankets as well as sanitary towels courtesy of a group of volunteers in Ward 48, Bloemfontein. The items were presented to the parents on Saturday, 22 February. The volunteers raised funds among themselves to purchase the much-needed items to improve the welfare of the learners. Nozi Mabafokeng Nkoe, spokesperson of the volunteers, said they were moved by the learners’ dire situations. “These children walk a long distance to and from school, barefoot. “I know the difficulty of going to school without shoes, hence we donated shoes in the hope to encourage them to study to become better persons.“Sanitary pads will alleviate the girls’ struggle to miss classes during their monthly cycles. “Parents working in rural areas are often faced with financial difficulties to maintain their children,” said Nkoe.
