Draw can send SA to Russia in 2018

2016-06-29 06:00

SHAKES MASHABA said South Africa “should” make the 2018 World Cup in Russia after his side had received a favourable draw in the final round of African qualifiers.

Although Group D opponents are not considered easy opposition, it could have been a lot worse for Mashaba’s team.

“We could not have asked for a kinder draw,” Mashaba said.

Only the top team in each pool advances to the finals in Russia, with the qualifiers set to begin in October.

“There is no second best at this stage, only top teams in the group will be at the World Cup.

“We should be among them,” Mashaba said.

The Group of Death is Group B, where Zambia must contend with Algeria, Cameroon and Nigeria.

Only one of those sides will make the finals in Russia.

The qualifiers begin in October and run until November.
