Dynamic jazz show held soon

2019-04-17 06:02

The Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein presents Jazz on the Lawn on 28 April with three dynamic jazz artists sharing the stage.

These are The Social Jam Band, Afripella and Sylvester Mazinyane. The show will be from 14:00 to 20:00.

The Social Jam Band was formed as an in house band for a regular social session then known as the Social Jam Sessions founded in 2012 by Molefi ‘Levos’ Phuroe, an all-round creative drummer, DJ and photographer.

The band was the result of an experiment to bring two bands together which Levos was a part of, fusing jazz, experimental and world music together to form an irregular yet pleasant sound.

Afripella is a brand-new group, the brainchild of David Nhlapo. His professional career in music started in 2010 and has toured France and Nigeria with the Soweto Spiritual Singers.

Sylvester Mazinyane, a pianist who studied music at the University of Cape Town, has released one album, Down South, and is currently working on his second one.

He has just returned from a tour in the Middle East. Mazinyane has recorded with the likes of Selaelo Selota, Judith Sephuma and Jimmy Dludlu to name a few.
