The Super Eagles, representing the Free State at this year’s ABC Motsepe League promotion play-offs, have started off positively.

They collected a point against Mpumalanga’s Acornbush United in their opening fixture played on Monday (05/06).

They drew 0-0 in the promotion play-offs underway in East London in the Eastern Cape.

The weeklong competition will end on Sunday (11/06), culminating in the promotion of two teams, the Group A and the Group B winner.

The Eagles are in Group A with four other teams: North West’s Buya Msuthu, The Dolphins of Limpopo, Acornbush United and Gauteng’s Maccabi.

The Bethlehem-based outfit is bound to win two matches, today’s (07/06) match against Maccabi and The Dolphins on Thursday (08/06).

The scenario which has the Eagles under pressure developed after Msuthu and Maccabi played to a one-all draw in their opening match, also played on Monday.

The result saw the Free State dropping to second spot and tied on one point with Acornbush in the Group A stream log.

Victory for the Free State champions in today’s fixture against Maccabi and the next against The Dolphins will intensify the prospect of qualifying for promotion to the National First Division (NFD).

The mammoth assignment facing the Eagles compels captain Mpapa Mofokeng and his teammates to rise to the occasion to ensure they realise the dream to gain NFD status.
