Eagles fly high in NFD

2017-06-14 06:02

The Free State finally has a team in the National First Division (NFD) following the promotion of the Super Eagles from Bethlehem.

The team attained this after beating Buya Msuthu with 3-1 in their must-win game of the ABC Motsepe League promotion play-offs in East London last week.

The Eagles finished top in Group A over the strong contenders Acornbush United from Mpumalanga.

Acornbush also finished on 10 points, but with lesser goals – 5 goals in total to the 8 goals of the Eagles.

The Eagles finished the group stage unbeaten, having drawn 0-0 with Acornbush in their opening fixture of the tournament.

It will be the only Free State team in the NFD stream in the 2017-’18 term.

This is after Maluti FET College, African Warriors, Carara Kicks and Roses United were relegated in the 2014-’15, 2015-’16 and the 2012-’13 seasons respectively.
