PHUTHADITJHABA. – Tseseng police have recently arrested a man (30) from the Thabana-Tsoana Village in Tseseng for allegedly raping his neighbour, a pensioner (75). The victim fought back with a stick, but was struck by her assailant.

Sgt Mmako Mophiring, police spokesperson, said it is alleged that on Saturday, 19 March, the elderly woman was sleeping

when she heard a noise in her house.

“She was suddenly attacked by the suspect who allegedly raped her. She tried to fight and the suspect fled the house. He was tracked and arrested at the house next door,” he said.

He said the 30-year-old man will be charged with rape and housebreaking with intent to rape and is expected to appear in the Tseseng Magistrate’s Court soon.

“House robberies and rapes are serious offences.

“We urge members of the community to prioritise the safety of elderly people through street patrols with the assistance of the police.

“We will do our level best as police, but need the assistance of the community to apprehend criminals on the run,” said the Free State provincial commissioner, Lt.Gen. Thabethe Mpembe.
