POWERHOUSE PROPERTIES opened in February 2015 and has rapidly grown from strength to strength over a year.

The business is run by two partners as founding directors, Karabo and Tshepiso Lebyana, who both have different exper-tise that have enabled them to build the business based on good, solid “people values”.

Karabo studied Labour Relations and completed his degree in 2008 while Tshepiso studied Public Relation Management and completed her degree in 2008.

Both studied at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in Pretoria.

Both have been in the industry for the past eight years and gained valuable experience while being fully employed by another agency in Bloemfontein.

“We saw a need to expand and put more ‘fire’ in the property market, taking a new approach. We carried out extensive research, also analysing the different needs of clientele at the time.

“We realised that there was a gap in the market that needed a fresh and new approach in the property market. This is what motivated us to establish Powerhouse Properties,” said Tshepiso.

The journey has not been without challenges, with cash-flow the main one.

However, Karabo said the ability to manage and build solid cash-flow set the wheels in motion to build a reputable property agent.

“To be marketable requires a lot of advertising, branding and other expenses. We strongly believe in the power of God and see His mercy every day.

“We draw our everyday strength from Him and through His power we see ourselves the powerhouse of the property market,” said Karabo.

Challenges unrelated to cash remain part of the business, but Karabo says they cope well.

“We face a lot of challenges in the market, most of them unavoidable. It is quite an uphill battle to get financing from the banks, especially without a cash deposit.

“Most of our clients struggle with affordability and the high interest rate.

“Although we encounter such challenges, we strive to give our clients the best service and positive results at the end of the day. The market is tough and we find ourselves equal to the task.”

Tshepiso says considering the financial constraints at the beginning, they both decided to work with only the two of them, with her also working as a receptionist.

This decision profited them and currently they have employed five people. They started mainly with sales.

“With time we saw a need for the rental market as a lot of people cannot afford to buy or are working in Bloemfontein for a certain period at a time and want to do short-term rental.

“The market welcomed us with big and open arms. We discovered that people wanted change and new ideas in line with our vision and mission. The market is still active, competition is tough and we need to get even tougher,” says Tshepiso.

She says their strong belief in empowerment to empower people through a home, makes Powerhouse Properties stand out from the rest.

“We believe in improving people’s lives for the better and giving power to the people through a home, financing achievement and freedom,” said Tshepiso.

The couple attribute their success to honesty, integrity and hard work.

“Never giving up and understand the need of people to secure homes.”
