Farm safety probed

2018-10-31 06:01

The DA in the Free State has started a campaign to engage the farming community on safety challenges crippling farming – the backbone of the economy – in the province.

A meeting with farmers took place in Hennenman on Monday (29/10).

The DA’s delegation included John Steenhuisen, member of parliament, Patricia Kopane, premier candidate, and Roy Jankielsohn, DA leader in the Free State Legislature.

“In the next months we will engage with farming communities across South Africa about the safety challenges and concerns that they face every day,” Steenhuisen said.

“The DA is very concerned about the safety of our farming communities.

“The party has often called for the implementation of specialised rural safety units.

“Farmers and workers live in constant fear, as they have become targets of heinous acts of violence and crime.”
