A combined congress for far-reaching discussions on the importance of food security and sustainable agriculture as water management, is underway at the University of the Free State (UFS).

This is called the Combined Congress of the Soil Science Society of SA, SA Society of Crop Production, SA Weed Science Society and SA Society for Horticultural Sciences.

This event officially opened yesterday at the university’s campus in Bloemfontein and will end tomorrow.

The event is an initiative of the university’s Department Soil, Crop, and Climate Sciences.

Among others, discussions focus on food security and sustainable agriculture, soil fertility and crop nutrition, water management, as well as innovative solutions for vegetable seed production for a growing population.
