The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit of the police in Kimberley are requesting the community’s assistance to solve an attempted kidnap case.

Information is sought regarding a female suspect who is wanted for allegedly attempting to kidnap a five-year-old boy on Tuesday, 22 May.

According to police spokesperson Sergio Kock, an unknown woman allegedly tried to grab the boy in Main Road, Beaconsfield, at about 16:00, and she was spotted by the female complainant.

The unknown female suspect fled the scene when the complainant allegedly stopped her in her tracks and called the police.

The Beaconsfield community was left in a rage following the incident.

They are now concerned that such attempts might succeed in the upcoming school holidays.

A member of the community, Sophie Klaasen, who stays with her four grandchildren, urges parents to know the whereabouts of their children at all times.

“We have to stop being too relaxed as parents and keep our eyes and ears open at all times to protect our children. We cannot allow this,” said Klaasen.

A charge of attempted kidnapping was opened hence the police’s request that anyone with information call WO Sgt David Tau on 083-472-6819.
