Agnes Mamagowa Letaba from Kuruman has been chosen as a 2018 Mrs Africa Classic Continental finalist.

Letaba is a wife and a mother of three daughters.

She is a teacher by profession, but fell in love with the tourism and hospitality industry.

Letaba has been in the tourism industry for ten years and owns a three star graded guesthouse in Kuruman.

She has won several tourism awards and represented the Northern Cape and South Africa in Germany in 2011 and 2012.

Letaba has recently been appointed as an independent grading assessor by South African Tourism.

She is also involved in a Help a Child organisation in Kuruman.

The organisation encourages, mentors and supports the youth, and holds monthly dialogues to discuss challenges that the youth are facing.

Among the challenges faced by the youth in Letaba’s community are alcohol, drugs, abuse and child pregnancy.

The organisation further promotes wellness, and does fundraising events.

Her goal and passion is to have an organisation that will focus on mothers – rather the voiceless ordinary women and their well-being.

Some of the challenges they faced are single parenthood, raising grandchildren whose parents are deceased, or abuse.

According to Letaba, some of those women have skills in cooking, sewing, knitting, and much more, and she would like to assist them in utilising it to generate an income.

“Some women have dreams that did not come true and they just need an ear to listen, a voice, guidance, support, assistance and hard work to make their dreams a reality,” Letaba says.

She believes that this competition and platform is a tool that will assist her in finding her purpose in life.

It will equip her with the necessary skills and force her to step out of her comfort zone, get involved and be the voice, a leader, a mother who does not only look after her own, but a mother of the nation and a mother of Africa, Letaba says.
