We live in an age where self-care has become a priority. Whether it is waking up early for that yoga class or hitting the gym after a day at the office, we value our bodies and consciously decide what we put into them. However, focus on the physical shifts attention away from your emotional needs. Self-love can be defined as loving yourself emotionally, irrespective of what you have – it is knowing your worth and valuing yourself. Many people struggle to maintain this type of well-being throughout the week. Unlike self-care, self-love is a more conscious decision that requires daily exercise to be effective. It is easy to conflate these two practices and mistake loving yourself for the acts of self-care you engage in. Yet, in doing this, you are only treating yourself as a symptom – at physical level. Self-love is treating yourself at the source. When our deepest friendship is torn, it is all too easy to believe that love in its entirety has been snuffed out. To have someone mean so much, then nothing at all, always threatens to tear us apart. Our hearts and heads tell us the same story of hate, spread the lie that our lives have lost meaning. This tunnel vision threatens to consume us.When we are broken and sad, it’s easy to forget the love in our lives. Yet love that is true never leaves us. This refers to the love of friends, the love of brothers, the love of sisters, the love of mothers, the love of fathers, the love of God. In the midst of the gaping hole in our hearts, however, it is no wonder that all this love seems to shrink, seems to stand back to allow hatred to consume us.to not save us from hatred of ourselves and the world. It is easy to dismiss broken love as the folly of the young. Failed love is something one must pick oneself up from with ease, lest one be considered weak.Rather than seeking blame, seek the comfort of love when it has forsaken you in one form. Bonds of friendship, family and the Creator are not easily broken. However, when they are, find the ones in your life who love you. Live in the comfort of being cared for. Find meaning in your loved ones and peace in their arms, find love where it can be found, for it is scarce.
