Flowers flourish in FS

2016-11-09 06:01

An array of colourful flowers can be viewed at the Free State Flower Festival in Parys on Friday (11/11) and Saturday (12/11).

The festival is a joint initiative between the Free State and Madeira, Portugal.

The staging of the flower festival is an attempt to boost the province’s economy and explore trade possibilities.

Some of the major attractions include 600 performers, five massive floats, giant flowers and fireworks, alongside an amazing floral storytelling precinct.

As a gathering of leading local and international experts of the flower industry, the forum will address topics under the central theme “Unlocking export opportunities”.

Topics include world trends, the South African flower industry, business opportunities and the formation of the South African-Madeiran Association.

Attendees and speakers will include floriculturists, farmers, government financers, retailers and wholesalers.

Already established as a flower producing region that exports an estimated 1,2 million tons of cut flowers annually, the Free State has potential for growth in an international industry that continues to flourish.
