Foster parents needed

2016-10-26 06:00

Engo Family Care Bloemfontein, a non-profit organisation, is looking for foster care parents capable of providing children with a safe and happy home.

Engo welcomes all adults interested in becoming acting as foster care parents or safe care parents for vulnerable children.

On 2 November 2016, Engo Family Care Bloemfontein will host an information session aimed at informing those interested in becoming foster parents and safe care parents about the necessary requirements.

“A foster child is a child placed in foster care who has no parents, or a child who has been abused, neglected or abandoned. A child is defined by the Children’s Act 38 of 2005 as a person under the age of 18. Foster parents are desperately needed by child protection organisations in order to provide vulnerable children with a safe and happy home,” says Shannon Reynolds, social worker at Engo Family Care Bloemfontein.

“Social workers facilitate the process of foster care. A child is legally placed in foster care by a court order from the children’s court. Persons interested in becoming a foster parent must be screened and trained as a foster parent by a social worker.

“You cannot have a criminal record if you want to become a foster parent.

“Foster children are placed in families according to the child’s specific needs. There is a difference between foster care and adoption. A child may be returned to the care of his or her biological parents by the social worker should their circumstances improve.”

If you are interested in making a difference in a child’s life by becoming a foster parent, call Engo Family Care on 051-522-6914.
