Four in custody for murder

2018-01-17 06:01

The four alleged armed robbers arrested for the robbery and murder of Jagersfontein tavern owner Khotso Albert Lepelesana (62) remain behind bars.

The suspects reportedly originate from Lesotho. They are Lehasa Sekhakola (21), Moeketsi Ntoane (27), Retsilisitsoe Mosedi (24) and Terata Mohapi (27).

Sinah Mpakane, provincial police spokesperson, says that at their reappearance in court on 10 January, the alleged armed robbers abandoned their bail application. She says the armed robbers face three charges: business robbery, murder and the illegal possession of a firearm.

The four suspects are set to reappear in the Jagersfontein Magistrate’s Court on 28 February.

They have been in custody since their arrest in December after the murder of the tavern owner.

The deceased had been running the business in Itumeleng for years.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was shot during a robbery by the four robbers, who were masked to hide their identity. The suspects shot the victim and stole an undisclosed amount of money, thereafter fleeing the crime scene on foot,” says Mpakane. She says the victim was attacked at his business at night and the assailants were captured hours after the incident.

“The Jagersfontein police activated other police units and neighbouring police stations, as well as farmers, to search for the four suspects,” says Mpakane.

She says evidence, including the loot and firearms, were found in the possession of some of the arrested suspects.

“Upon their arrest, two 9 mm pistols and the money they stole were recovered,” says Mpakane.
