FORMER Pixley ka Seme District Municipality official Daniel Williams (48) was found guilty of fraud by the De Aar Regional Court on Wednesday (27/07).

According to the Hawks, he fraudulently requested monetary donations from various service providers and promised to later reward them with upcoming municipal projects.

“He had fabricated a story to assure all service providers that he would soon be appointed as a municipal manager following the death of the incumbent between December 2006 and January 2007. In the process he unduly received R70 000, for which he was indicted in April 2007.”

The court sentenced him to a fine of R20 000 or 12 months in prison. In addition to this, he was sentenced to a further 12 months correctional supervision.
