The 2018-’19 Telkom Knockout Tournament, the 12th edition of the championship, will see two Free State football giants, Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars, in action on Saturday (20/10).Ea Lla Koto will host defending champion, Bidvest Wits, at the Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem. Kick-off is at 15:30. Last year’s runner-up, Phunya Sele Sele, will take on Mamelodi Sundowns in another clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria. Kick-off is at 18:00.The two winners of these games will progress to the quarter-final of the competition, featuring 16 clubs in the Premier Soccer League.Celtic last won this tournament in 2012, while Stars have failed to lift the trophy since 1996, when the championship was still known as the Coca-Cola Cup. This was also the club’s first major trophy. Ea Lla Koto’s best effort to lift the trophy in recent years was reaching the quarter-finals in 2015 and 2016, when they beat Wits by 1 – 0 and Kaizer Chiefs by 6 – 5 respectively. Pitso Mosimane’s team, Sundowns, won this championship in 2015 after losing to Celtic in the final in 2012.
