The Golden Bean Music Awards Ceremony, recognising Free State artists for their accomplishments in 2016, is set to be held on 10 and 11 March in Bloemfontein.The proceedings will start with the staging of the technical awards at the Bloemfontein Civic Theatre. The main event will follow on the next day at the Sand du Plessis Theatre. The organiser postponed the occasion to this new date after not being able to stage the awards in November last year as usual. It will be staged in partnership with the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation. The theme for this year’s edition is “Dare to Differ”.The occasion is the brainchild of Teboho Kotsi, a local pioneering arts and entertainment promoter. This event was launched four years ago with the sole objective of recognising and celebrating the Free State for its role in the arts and entertainment industry in South Africa.This year’s ceremony will be the fourth edition of the event. It includes 28 categories.New categories include technical awards, best traditional group, best international act, best national act, best supporting provincial act, dance group or dancer of the year and the converted lifetime achiever award.A host of acts in the entertainment industry have been nominated. These include orchestras, choirs and bands, as well as DJs.
