The Free State will have a new champion in the u.12 Danone Nations Cup after the provincial final on Saturday (05/05) in Bloemfontein. The champion of 2017, the Phaphama Primary School from Fouriesburg, was eliminated in the regional play-offs. Five teams will compete at Grey College for this year’s title: the Inoseng Public School (Xhariep), Tshediso-Xolani Primary School (Fezile Dabi), Witsiehoek Primary School (Thabo Mofutsanyana), Letsibolo Primary School (Lejweleputswa) and the Katiso Public School (Motheo). The winner automatically qualifies to compete for the national title, with the winner thereof set to represent South Africa internationally. The international leg of the tournament will be held in Spain in 2019. Tshediso-Xolani Primary from Tweeling in the Northern Free State will debut in the provincial final. The school first entered the competition in 2008 and this is the first time it has reached the provincial finals. Tshediso-Xolani Primary won the Fezile Dabi regional final on 14 April at the Nelson Mandela Primary School, the two-time Free State champion. In the final game against the host, Tshediso-Xolani won hands down, hammering the former provincial champions by 6 – 0 to secure a place in this year’s provincial final.
