Grey College is to play host to the Free State final of the 2019 Danone Nations Cup u.12 Boys’ football tournament on Saturday (13/04). The provincial winner qualifies to compete for the national title with the ultimate prize being the right to represent South Africa at the world final in Barcelona, Spain. The global final is set for October. The five primary school teams each represent their region in this tournament, aimed at developing future football stars. The finalists have qualified by winning in their respective regions. New provincial champions will be crowned at Grey College, seeing that the 2018 winners, Tshediso Xolani from Tweeling, have been eliminated. So far the finalists are the Lebelo Primary School from Botshabelo (representing the Motheo Region), Letsibolo Primary from Wesselsbron (Lejweleputswa), Maokeng Primary from Kroonstad (Fezile Dabi) and Inoseng Primary from Petrusburg (Xhariep). The winner for the Thabo Mofutsanyana Region is expected to be announced after the regional final taking place today (10/04).Letsibolo will be making their second appearance in the provincial final. The first time was in 2015. Inoseng will make their third appearance in the provincial final, having featured in 2016 and 2018. Both schools are yet to wear the Free State crown.Maokeng Primary will be making their first appearance in the provincial final. Also historic is that the school will be led by female coach, Hilda Malebelle, who happened to play football during her youthful days. Presently she works at the school as a cleaner. She hopes to become the first female coach to lead a team to victory in the Free State final of the tournament. Malebelle said reaching the provincial final has inspired her boys and the entire school.
