The Free State Cricket Union (FSCU) is deeply saddened by the passing of a young cricket player of HTS Welkom, Karel Minnie.

The 14 year old bowler, who was also awarded the best u.13 bowler of his school for 2016, died in a hit-and-run accident in Odendaals-rus shortly after getting of the school bus.

He is survived by his mother Johanna, step-father Frikkie, his father Rassie Minnie, step-mother Yolandi and three sisters.

“Losing someone as passionate about cricket as Karel, is close to our hearts and he will surely be missed. On behalf of the Free State cricket family we extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” said FSCU chief executive, Johan van Heerden.
