THE Roodepan Primary School’s annual fun day proved to have been a success as the school made a huge profit on Saturday, 3 September.

Business boomed for local businesses as many people flocked to the event to either support or set up stalls.

Locals who set up food stalls inside and outside the school yard, made a killing in terms of sales.

The parents were motivated to support the event because some of the proceeds were earmarked for the upcoming school tour that will be undertaken by the gr. 7 learners.

The school principal, Steve Drude, confirmed that the event was indeed a success and that they will be able to subsidise the learners’ tour.

He added that they will also be able to use some of the funds raised to renovate the school’s toilets, which are in a poor condition.

One of the parents, Gladys Phillipus, who also erected a chisanyama stall, along with other locals outside the school, said the profit that she made will allow her to give her child pocket money for the tour.

According to Drude, support towards the fun day was tremendous and record sales were achieved by those involved.

Besides the sports activities that were held on the day, there were also talent shows, jumping castles, fun and games and car rides.

“We need to host more events like these in Roodepan so we can keep the child-ren’s minds occupied and keep them away from bad activities,” said the school principal.

He added that the school will work on getting more partnerships from different sectors and parents.

“This year we partnered with amongst other, the Sol Plaatje Municipality, the South African Police Services (SAPS), the fire departement, CC Riders and the local group SMS.

“SMS agreed to give a free performance as way of giving back to the community,” Drude said.
