A heritage site established to preserve and sustain the Batlokoa culture in Qwaqwa was officially handed over on Saturday (19/11) by Minister of Tourism Derek Hane-kom. It is known as the Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge and is situated in Phuthaditjhaba.

The facility is one of the tourism attraction initiatives led by the Department of Tourism. The construction of this facility is aimed at enhancing tourism in this town, which boasts a rich history and culture of the Basotho tribes who came to settle in the region.

The project also aims to create employment opportunities and to develop a vibrant, equitable and sustainable local economy through tourism that would benefit the local community. The Witsieshoek initiative is one of more than 300 infrastructure projects of the Department countrywide to bring tourism closer to the people.
