Gardener a suspect in rape

2016-05-18 06:00

A GARDENER had allegedly assaulted and raped a 14-year-old girl during a robbery at her parents’ home in Bethlehem on Friday, 1 April.

It is alleged that the gardener had threatened her and her seven-year-old brother with a pair of scissors.

It is also alleged that he had assaulted and tied up the children before he raped the girl. He allegedly stole four cellphones and a laptop from the house.

The police are looking for “Suna” Motsamai of Bethlehem who can assist them in their investigation.

The provincial commissioner, Lt.Gen. Simon Mpembe, has advised residents to ensure that they keep copies of identity documents of people they employ and that the physical addresses of such employees are known to them.

“Knowing such details can help trace the suspect in the unfortunate event of a crime being committed by the employee,” he said.

Such basic information on house helpers and gardeners can go a long way in resolving crime.

Anyone with information is urged to call Det.WO René Nel of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit on 082-854-7546.
