Teenage footballer Lerato Ranthimo (16) has been chosen as the Express and SuperSport Let’s Play Sports Star of the Month for October.

His achievements include being named the goalkeeper of both the boys’ u.17 Engen Knockout Challenge and the Nedbank Grey College soccer tournament.

Lerato walked away with awards at the two events staged in July and October.

Both competitions were held at Grey College in Bloemfontein.

For the second time, Lerato was named the sportsman of the year at the Brebner High School sports awards, rewarding his excellent performance.

He has been credited for being included in the South African team to participate at the 24th edition of the Copa Jordi Tournament, scheduled to take place in Spain from 14 to 17 April in 2017.

The talented goalstopper plays for the Kovsie boys’ team campaigning in the regional league under the auspices of the South African Football Association (Safa).

He was also chosen to participate in the Feyenoord Rotterdam Tournament in the Netherlands in 2015.

Lerato’s passion for sport saw him participating in different sporting codes – rugby, cricket, hockey and football – while in primary school. He chose football and decided on the position of goalkeeper when he was 11 years old.

Lerato has been collecting silverware since 2012, receiving the award for best u.13 player at Brebner High. He has been playing for the school’s u.19 senior team since the age of 15.

Lerato’s motto is: “With God, hard work and perseverance, you will succeed”.

  • “I want to work so hard that my signature becomes an autograph, and I want to shine God’s word through my talent,” says Lerato. Send your SuperSport Let’s Play Sports Star of the Month nomination for November now.

It is the last time nominations will be received for this year.

The competition is open for school learners between the ages of 6 and 18.

Email your nomination to supersport @zpr.co.za or send a fax to 086-552-4922.
